A programming language is a logical method used to describe calculations. Programming languages are most often used to depict a proposed calculation in a structure that will allow it to be performed by a machine or a computer.  Programming languages were developed because other types of languages are not compatible when it comes to describing a calculation in adequate detail to be performed dependably by a computer. Calculations articulated in programming languages are generally called programs, and the act of creating these programs is called programming or coding. The readable description of a program written in a programming language is called code. Code that is written in a high-level programming language is usually called source code.

.Net programming languages are used on a .Net framework.  A .Net framework is one that can be installed on computers running Microsoft Windows Operating systems. It includes a large collection of solutions to common programming challenges and a common language infrastructure that manages the execution of programs written exclusively for the framework. The .NET Framework supports multiple programming languages in such a way that permits each language to utilize code written in other languages; for example, the .NET library is available to all the programming languages that .NET encompasses.
PHP programming language is a hypertext preprocessor which is a general-purpose scripting language that was originally intended for web development to produce dynamic web pages. For this purpose, PHP code is embedded into the HTML source document and interpreted by a web server with a PHP processor module, which generates the web page document. As a general-purpose programming language, PHP code is processed by an interpreter application in command-line mode performing desired operating system operations and producing program output on its standard output channel. It may also function as a graphical application. PHP is available as a processor for most modern web servers and as a standalone interpreter on most operating systems and computing platforms.  PHP, originally stood for personal home page and was developed by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1995.  It has been in constant development ever since.
Web programming as it relates to the job market has a very interesting trend.  It is clear that web programming is a skill that is needed in the workplace.  When looking at the different web programming languages however, the growth has been fairly dramatic with languages like PHP and Javascript.  Other web programming languages have also had an increase in demand but not nearly as dramatic of an increase as the others.   If you are thinking of expanding your skills to include web programming languages you might consider which ones are on the rise.  Also, if you are just starting out in your information technology education, you might consider web development to be your area of focus.  Keeping in mind the information technology field changes at a very rapid rate and the continuing education will be constant.  The good news is that it’s not likely that you will be board as there will always be more to learn.
