The most romantic and love focused day of the year is most definitely Valentine’s Day.  This day is the one day of the year dedicated to showing love and appreciation for others, either for a husband and wife, girlfriend and boyfriend, mother and father to their children, or for friends.  There are numerous ways to convey this feeling of love either with simple words, a sentimental card or Valentine’s poem, flowers, chocolate, or other types of memorable Valentine’s Day gifts.

This time for romance and love is indicated with stores filling up aisles with giant teddy bears, boxes of chocolates as far as the eye can see, Valentine’s Day cards, and Valentine’s Day decorations.  Couples often celebrate this special day with small, meaningful gifts like chocolate and jewelry, or a card that truly captures the sincere love and devotion that couples share.  Besides sentimental cards, there are an abundance of cards that are appropriate for children, family, or friends that help to celebrate this day and show appreciation for others. 

Many people may choose to write a touching and memorable Valentine’s Day poem for a person they love.  This poem could be a classic “Roses are red, violets are blue…” or a completely original poem that will create a personal connection with the recipient.  These poems convey a feeling of loyalty and love, and it is truly remarkable to see the joy and gratitude displayed on a person’s face when they see the hard work and sincerity put into a Valentine’s Day poem.

Celebrating Valentine’s Day may consist of a Valentine’s Day party or gathering, but Valentine’s Day decorations are essential in creating a romantic and festive holiday feel.  Some people may choose to throw a Valentine’s Day party with a few friends to share in the love and fun associated with this day.  These gatherings require decorations such as hearts on plates and napkins, decorations with Cupid, possibly a heart centerpiece and candles, and the atmosphere of the home beautifully decorated with pink and red.  This day is all about the colors red and pink, and, of course, hearts galore.  Tons of stores have a variety of decorations with hearts along with gifts in heart shapes like candles, stuffed animals, or boxes of chocolate. 

As with most holidays, food is a crucial aspect of celebrating Valentine’s Day.  Chocolate is an obvious food item that is essential on this day as well as other sweets like sugar cookie in the shape of hearts bearing red and pink frosting and sprinkles or classic conversation hearts.  It is always fun to have a beverage that goes nicely with the holiday such as red icy punch that is festive and tastes wonderful.

Many elementary schools also participate in celebrating Valentine’s Day with young students participating in fun games and activities like guessing how many conversation hearts are in the jar, and eating festive sweets and food.  Children also love to hand out valentines to their classmates to display their appreciation and friendship with their peers.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect day for giving and letting those special people know how much you love having them in your life.
