Travel preparation
As with most things in life, preparation for any task is something that cannot be minimized and should never be overlooked. Without adequate groundwork being laid prior to travelling, for instance, many problems generally occur, most if not all which could have been eliminated. Problems such as missed flights, missed car rental or possibly even inadequate bank funds a few “small” tasks can adversely impact a trip in many many ways. One way to assure you have a great trip with little work done on your end (and available to anyone is a “travel agent”. A travel agent is a person whose sole job it is to handle all of the critical travel components – but they will not pack your toothbrush for you. Travel agents are available in person (face to face) or can b e accessed on the internet. Generally a travel agent will handle the facets of your “traveling” trip. Booking needed flights, ground transportation to/from any airport, assuring you have the proper currency for acceptance at your destination and that travel dates are accurate - are things you don’t need to consider as they are functions provided by a travel agent. This type of service, however, is not free as an “agent” generally works “commission”. Their commission generally means that they get a percentage of what you spend on each of your individual travel components (the plane ticket or car rental for instance). Some unscrupulous agents sometimes book on more expensive flights so they are guaranteed a larger “commission” for their efforts. These tasks can be handled yourself using the internet search engines (such as google) or even a good ole cell phone.
Other preparation tricks for successful travel is to purchase a “travel insurance” policy. These types of policies work similar to traditional insurance as you are buying protection (for a fee) that your trip is not cancelled or postponed due to circumstances beyond your control such as illness, weather or even political strife at your destination. These policies are readily available and can even assure you obtain adequate medical treatment or transportation should you be traveling overseas  or to a third world county – many medical insurance plans will not cover you for foreign destinations.  For transportation to other countries a passport and visa will also be necessary. A visa to travel within a given county is obtained using your passport and assures each government that you have the right to be traveling within their borders.  Without a CURRENT visa and passport, most countries will deny access – a horrible end to a vacation that never got started. They generally take 4-6 weeks to obtain (US) so make sure you plan well in advance. One of the remaining components to plan for or consider is who will watch your house when you are away. There are companies that provide the service but as you would expect there is a charge for it. So with only a few well travel preparations, you can be assured your trip is a very successful one…
