Weddings are such happy occasions and require a great deal of planning and preparation. In addition to all the wedding preparation aside from the flowers, menu, invitations etc, bridesmaids and groomsmen are needed.  There are specific roles and responsibilities these bridesmaids and groomsmen have depending on the type of wedding you have. The number of bridesmaids and groomsman are a personal one.

You should consider this when making your selection. If you are having a large wedding a groomsmen are needed for every fifty guests to seat them. If you have a very formal wedding of more than 200 guests consider 6 to 10 bridesmaids and groomsmen. A semi formal wedding may have 1 to 6 attendants for the bride and groom. Casual weddings may only have a maid of honor and a best man. Second or late in life weddings typically have their children present at the aisle and no attendants at all. Most importantly remember it is a personal choice for the bride and groom to make.

The roles of the Groomsmen are to usher the guests to their seats before the wedding. They also escort the bridesmaids after the wedding ceremony. dance with all the single women and bridesmaids. One groomsman may be chosen as the Best man. Besides seating the guests before the wedding, his role includes holding the ring for the groom during the ceremony, making a toast at the reception and or reading any telegrams that may be sent, and assisting the groom before and during the wedding. Sometimes the best man organizes a bachelor party before the wedding. This is not required but customary. It is also customary for the groomsmen to give an engagement gift and a wedding gift. The groomsmen must pay for their own travel and wedding attire. Add the end of the wedding they help collect the gifts and take them to a safe place for the wedding couple.

Bridesmaids not only add beauty to a wedding but also assist the bride.  According to wedding etiquette brides maids should buy a wedding and engagement or shower gift for the bride and groom. The Maid(unmarried woman) or Matron (married woman) of Honor assist the bride with the planning of the wedding, shop for the wedding dress, help the bride run errands on the wedding day, wedding favors, helps plan a shower, pay their own travel and wedding attire costs and attend pre wedding parties, attend ceremony and rehearsal dinners. The day of the wedding they assist the bride dressing, easing her anxiety, and fixing her veil. They often hold the ring in a double ring ceremony.

During the reception the bridesmaids and groomsmen are seated at the bridal table. They are photographed with the bride and groom, assist in gathering the wedding gifts after the wedding for the bride and groom, and decorate the car the happy couple leaves in. The role of the bridesmaids, grooms men, Maid or Matron of Honor and Best man vary from wedding to wedding.  Your most important role is to make sure the bride and groom have a day that they will remember for the rest of their lives without any worries.
