RSS is a type of technology that is used by people all around the world to keep track of their most visited and favorite websites. RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication”, and is in its most basic sense a technology that provides millions of peoples with up to date relevant information that they are free to read in their own time. With RSS, information can be quickly accessed within a short time of being written or published. RSS is almost if you will an entity to be subscribed too. Only instead of being delivered to your home mailbox, it is conveniently delivered to your computer every time one of your favorite websites is updated.
If a person is determined to connect to reading sites using RSS, then the obvious next step would be to get an RSS feed reader. Since using RSS can be a little complicated at first, it might be a good idea to subscribe to a simple and free web based RSS reader such as one you can find on Google or Yahoo. There are a number of RSS readers, but starting with one that is very basic will allow you to figure out what you are doing before you launch into one of the more complex reader systems. By simply subscribing and getting started, you will begin learning how to navigate the RSS system and will be up and running in no time at all. Two places to find specific sites feeds would be, either on the site, or in your browser. RSS buttons on the computer come in all sorts of shapes colors and sizes, and can be found with a little looking. If the site you are on has an RSS link button, this means that you can subscribe to their particular feed. Some browsers are equipped to find and automatically subscribe to the feeds you are interested in, but you find one that doesn’t, it’s as simple as cutting and pasting the RSS link that you are interested in and adding it to your reader.
If you are not interested in using what might seem like a complicated RSS reader system, there is always the alternative of subscribing to an RSS feed through your email. If you decide that you are not interested in that particular feed any more, there is always the option to unsubscribe and not receive any more feeds from that website. When you do become subscribed to a certain website, the information will come to you from that website in one of two ways. Either you will receive a small pop up at the top of your screen, or you will get a full summary of the updated article to read at your convenience.  The nice thing about getting a pop-up is that you don’t have to close it or save it to a file; you can choose to ignore it until you have the time to read the entire thing. RSS is a convenient way to be constantly linked up to the news that interests you, and always in the know.
