     Human Resources are the department within a corporation or business that handles the people that work for that particular company. The people that work in and for the human resource department, must interact with various employees on a consistent basis, and thus must be very good and interpersonal relations, or pr. This particular department is responsible for handling the staffing of companies, while also being available to assist with any issues that may arise between employees and or the supervisors and bosses of the company. Certain issues that can come up when dealing with employees within a business are; sexual harassment, employee disputes, perceived harassment, and staffing complaints. All of these are handled through the human resources department, and all require careful consideration and handling. When someone is looking to work for human resources, it helps to have some training in personnel administration, and or business administration and labor relations.
     Managing a human resources department takes a key person who can handle pressure well, and be able to effectively interact with numerous different people and personalities on a daily basis. A manager must be able to asses and recruit hard working people, and then train them properly how to do their job to the best of their ability. The job of a human resources manager also involves being able to handle employee benefits and compensation, while keeping track of personnel records and policies. It is the HR department’s job to advise every employee and prospective employee of the company’s rules and policies regarding everything from employee dress to sexual harassment. A good human resources manager must be competent when dealing with contractors that have to be hired to complete jobs for the company, and at the same time be able to know that have people around them who are trained well enough to support them and help keep the department running at maximum effectiveness.
     Some of the most common issues that arise in the human resources department are; outsourcing, productivity, diversity, training, and the putting together of benefits packages for employees. Outsourcing is becoming more and more common in the workplace, and faces companies with the problems of having to fire or lay off many off their own employees. Productivity refers to the profits being made due to a company’s work being done effectively. Human resources become involved when plans are needed to set programs in place to help motivate employees to work harder, and increase their product output. Human resources address diversity in the workplace by ensuring that their employees are not being discriminated against due to race, religious beliefs, age or gender. The HR department is in charge of putting together the salary and benefits packages for their employees. This can include but not be limited to, medical benefits, dental benefits, and sometimes life insurance. Because of the amount of hiring and firing of employees within companies, human resources has to be very careful about keeping up to date records of each employee that works for their company.
