Housekeeping is the act of keeping a home clean, running smoothly, and making sure that it stays that way. This also includes keeping track of finances, setting aside specific times during the day, month or year for certain jobs that need to be done, and keeping up the outdoor housekeeping as well which include the yards, and any walks or patios. Housekeeping can either be done by the occupants of a household, or by outside people who have been hired to complete the housekeeping tasks. When kept up with regularly, a home can remain clean, organized and well run for the majority of the time.
There are numerous housekeeping jobs available, and in many different venues. There are whole companies dedicated specifically to private housecleaning, and the services vary depending on how much you want to spend. Working for one of these companies usually involves a thorough background check, and good references. Another option is working as a housekeeper for a person who is elderly or disables, and cannot perform household duties for themselves. These jobs will require a background check, CPR and 1st aid training, and usually fingerprint clearance. hotels are always hiring housekeeping staff. These jobs often mean traveling up and down stairs regularly; having to clean many rooms in a short period of time, and sometimes keeping either very early or very late hours depending on check-ins and checkouts. If you enjoy working around a lot of people, and in a large place, one place you might like to work in housekeeping is in a hospital setting. Because of the very strict regulations that hospitals under, to maintain rigid sanitary conditions, housekeepers must be dedicated to doing their job extremely well. In the hospital, the housekeepers are responsible for cleaning all areas within the hospital including the waiting room, the exam rooms, the patient rooms, the operating rooms, the staff rooms, any lounge areas, and bathrooms. They are also responsible for changing bed linens whenever necessary, and then must make sure they are washed, ironed and mended if needed. If you are interested in housekeeping, you are sure to be able to find a position that fits you somewhere.
Where there are housekeepers, there is a need for housekeeping supervisors.  This is not an easy job, and requires much of the person who holds it. A supervisor in this area is responsible for whom they hire into their company, and then making sure those people are doing their job to the highest standards. He or she may have to supervise occasionally to ensure that the workers in their employ are using their time wisely, and completing the housekeeping tasks appropriately. A supervisor is also responsible for keeping track of the various schedules being worked, and making sure that all areas that need cleaning are covered by someone at all times. The housekeeping supervisor is usually the person responsible for ensuring that all cleaning and maintenance supplies are ordered and available at all times. When the supervisor is efficient and responsible, the team who works for them will be much the same way.
