Gardens and lawns are areas dedicated to the growth and cultivation of different types of foliage, grasses, flowers or vegetables, and other plant material. Both lawns and gardens need plenty of minerals and trace elements to grow and develop immunity to diseases, and strong root structures. The better the nutrient intake, the stronger and more productive and vibrant the garden or lawn will be. Having healthy soil will make a marked difference in how plants will grow, and how well they will flourish in their environment. Using different means to enrich your soil, such as organic matter, compost or a mix of both will encourage good root structure and strong plants.
A garden is an area that has been chosen for a specific use. This area is planned out, and prepared for the type of plant you will put there, such as flowers or vegetables. gardening does not have to mean that you will need a large outdoor space. This is shown in a type of gardening known as container gardening. This type of planting and caring for your plants is done in containers of any size. It allows for plants to be transported easily between house and yard during inclement weather, or when the plants need a certain type of sunlight (direct, indirect or shade). Another form of gardening is called “raised bed”. The raised beds are freestanding, and allow for one to either stand, or sit comfortably while gardening depending on the height if the bed. A benefit of both container and raised bed gardening is that you are in control of the soil and fertilizer that comes in contact with the plants you are growing. Indoor gardening allows for you to have beautiful plants year round in your home, and eliminates the need for worrying about weather affecting what you are growing. Community garden is a fun choice, as it allows you to work with people around you that you might otherwise not have gotten to know. It enables people to work together on beautifying their community surroundings, while helping each other by feeding the community if the garden is a fruit and vegetable one. Gardens can be as simple, or complex as you want, the choice is up to you.
A lawn is also known in other terms, as; turf, field, green, or pitch, depending on where the lawn is. This area is generally a large piece of your property set aside specifically for grass to be grown on. Planting a lawn starts with one choice, seed or sod. Once you have decided this, the rest is fairly easy. Before you can put either down, you will need to make sure that you have gotten your soil ready for planting, and removed any weeds that might be growing. After the seed has been planted, or the sod laid, you will need to water carefully and make sure that there is no traffic where the grass is growing. A lawn can be kept neat and manicured with a few simple tools such as a lawnmower, weed whacker, and a tool designed for removing weeds.
Lawns and gardens alike are designed for enjoyment and use. Once you decide on creating one, how they will look and be designed is all up to you.
