You have just moved into a new place and now you need to fill it with some furniture. Furniture may or may not be a costly investment but will provide you with years of enjoyment. It all depends on what and where you get it. Before you start to shop you have to decide what type of furniture you want, colors and the size of the room. Whether you are decorating the family room or the bedroom here are some tips to make the process easier.

To get yourself inspired begin looking through home decor magazines, visit your friends homes, check out the internet and watch decorating shows to get an idea of what you like.  Sometimes furniture stores have consultants that can help you with your room design, fabrics and accessories at no charge if you buy from their store.  There are also private Interior decorators that can help you with everything. They have access to many places that the general public can not go to. There are also Buyers Clubs that you can join to get substantial savings on very expensive furniture, appliances, you name it. Let's not forget the antique, consignment and model home furniture stores. You never know what you'll find there.

Here are a few tips to begin furnishing your home. After you have looked through magazines, etc. think about the space and what it will be used for as well as your lifestyle. If the space is going to be used all the time you need durable and practical pieces. Do you have children or an animal is another consideration. Now you must decide on colors. Most importantly do you homework and get familiar with different furniture lines. Visit lots of furniture stores, so you can see different price points and if they offer any design services.  If you decide to use antiques make sure you know the difference between an original and a reproduction.  Now that you have an idea about the cost of the most expensive part of a room, the furniture, you can get started.

Suppose you are ready to decorate or redecorate your bedroom. After a busy day it is important to have a bedroom that helps you unwind. You want a room that is calming and
Relaxing, and screams comfort. Consider everything from colors, linens, lamps and most importantly a very comfortable mattress. Don't skimp on the mattress because that is going to help you get a good night sleep everyday for a long time. You are hopefully sleeping 8 to10 hours every night. You also must consider who will be sleeping on the mattress. Think about the size of the room when buying the mattress. You must have room to walk around freely and to allow for other pieces you may want in your bedroom. The mattress should not take up all the floor space.

No matter what room you are decorating furniture buying is an investment in your home. Consider your lifestyle, colors, comfort and practicality of the pieces you choose. Think about the feeling you want the room to give. Remember if you are decorating a family room, the family should be able to enjoy it.  A bedroom needs to be a place of comfort, and serenity after a busy day. No matter what room you do whether it is the bedroom or family room.  Have some fun. It is your castle.
