Today’s fashion and style trends are most often started by celebrities.   Celebrities are constantly in the public eye and scrutinized for their appearance.   There is a wide spectrum of fashion trends from the conservative to the extreme.  Popular television shows such as, “What Not to Wear” have also placed emphasis on styles that suit individual tastes and body types.   There are a wide variety of popular fashion styles for all ages.  Clothing trends tend to change over time and are sometimes repeated among decades.
Some of the most extreme fashion trends come from celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Cher.  Their individual styles push the limits of fashion trends and revealing outfits.  Lady Gaga and Cher have their own styles which are rarely imitated by the general public.  However, the public is continually shocked and amused by the outfits that are designed for them.
Celebrities such as Katie Holmes, Blake Lively, and Jessica Alba have a far more classical style.   They can be seen wearing anything from ballroom gowns to denim pants.  These classical styles are often imitated by the general public and available at most retail stores.   Similar styles are easily reproduced and affordable to the average person.  Most celebrities wear name brands and accessories which are very expensive.  These accessories can be easily manufactured in mass quantities using a cheaper material which allows people to imitate the style without spending a fortune.
The First Lady of the United States is another person who leads fashion trends in our country.  Perhaps the most famous First Lady known for fashion trends was Jacqueline Kennedy.  Her sleek style which included hats, sunglasses, gloves, and matching purses and shoes was envied by most women in America.  Since Kennedy’s time as First Lady, subsequent wives of the President have been subjected to public opinion of their fashion trends.  Currently, Michelle Obama has led the First Lady fashion trends with a lot of public scrutiny.  She has been seen vacationing in short sleeved shirts and shorts.  This type of clothing is generally not consistent with the First Lady.  However, as our society has become more casual in clothing trends, public acceptance of this has greatly increased.
One of the most emerging fashion trends is in infant and toddler clothing.  the children of celebrity’s are generally the ones who begin these clothing trends.  Some of these clothing trends include “mommy and me” outfits where both mother and daughter wear matching clothes.  There are also designer undershirts, blankets, bottles, and burp clothes.  Some of these items can be purchased at a boutique, but are very expensive.  Most children’s clothes that become celebrity trends are not affordable to the general public.
When you think of fashion trends, you often think in terms of decades.  For example, the 1970s brings to mind tie dye shirts and bell bottom pants.  The 1980s makes you think of big hair, big belts, and baggie sweaters that come off the shoulder.  Currently fashion trends are closely linked to celebrities and range from extreme to classical.
