The definition of diet is simply, the food that a person eats. The definition of nutrition is how the food that a person eats affects and nourishes their bodies. Eating a healthy diet is important, if your priority is looking and feeling your best, and keeping your body in top condition. A healthy diet, that being one that keeps your body in good condition, is a diet that feeds your body daily with good nutrition. This would include, picking good food choices from each of the five food groups which are; fats, oils, and sweets (to be used sparingly); milk, yogurt, and cheese; meat, poultry, fish, beans, and eggs; vegetables and fruits; and bread, rice, cereal, and pasta. It is also important to find a healthy balance between what you eat, and how much you exercise, and finally, eating so that you get the very most out of the calories you consume. Putting healthy eating together with a good eating plan will go a long way in improving your health. Cooking foods that are healthy, and that you and your family enjoy, will make it easier to stick with an overall lifestyle change in your eating habits. Getting started with a good diet and nutrition plan will help you to get to, and maintain a healthy weight.
Diet and nutrition have a direct effect on how we look, think and feel. The foods that we put into our bodies now, will foretell how our bodies will perform for us later. Poor nutrition can put you at a high risk for a number of serious health problems. For people who make poor daily food choices, they can expect to most likely find themselves overweight yet very undernourished. High blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, and osteoarthritis are but just a few of the conditions that can arise through making consistent choices to eat large amounts of unhealthy food items. Poor diet and nutrition do not affect only the physical state of the body, but the mental state as well; they have been linked to poor body image, depression and several types of eating disorders. Several types of cancer, including but not limited to, bladder, colon and breast, have also been directly linked in some cases to diet. Obesity, which is a direct result of poor diet and nutrition, is at an all time high, and is no respecter of race or religion. Making a few small changes to your diet and nutrition can make all the difference when it comes to your life and health.
One way to start off with a new eating plan to better your food choices is to visit a dietitian or nutritionist who will get you on the right track. Their job is to promote healthy eating habits and recommend dietary changes. They will help you put together a food plan, and teach you how to make those foods in a healthy way.  Nutritionists can offer wise counsel on how to eat in a way that promotes health and prevents disease. Diet and nutrition are a part of every day, and every day we have the choice to make either wise or poor choices regarding them.
